It's time to invest in what’s next
The way we live our lives today is often a far cry from the generations before ours. Well-trodden paths do remain for some, but less traditional approaches are fast becoming the new norm. So what can you expect from the future?
Take in the modern view
Perceptions of how life shapes up have shifted dramatically over the last few decades. Which is why we’ve created our Modern Life Report. Not only to help people see where the shifts are in 2019, but how their lives can fit into the modern world.Download the report
The value of investments and the income from them can go down as well as up so you may get back less than you invest.
Watching Modern Life unfold
Some say pictures speak a thousand words, so we’ve put together a video that explains our Modern Life campaign and what we hope to achieve with it.
Do you feel in control of your life?
If not, don’t worry, you’re in the majority. A staggering 84% of people we questioned said they don’t feel in total control of their lives. And the reason? Sadly, it’s something many of us encounter at one time or another – how much money we have coming in.

Who says one way of life has to be the only way
Banker, Nigel, spent the first 30 years of his working life in the City. Only after three decades did he realise it wasn’t too late to turn his true passion, and hobby, into a full-time career.
What does the Modern Life Report tell us?
When the idea of the Modern Life Report was born, it was vital to build it on real truths, from people who think differently. Not just people living their lives for now, but those aspiring beyond the future. Here’s what we asked:
- What are modern life moments?
- How are people living today, and with who?
- What does working life look like?
- And how does that change as we get older?
And here's what we found out
We know that life moves in many different directions, and there’s no clear path to follow. What we did find interesting is just how many people don’t quite feel quite financially stable to be where they really want to be in life:
- A third (34%) of those aged 18 - 34 are living with their parents - the ‘Artful Lodgers’
- Over half (52%) of over 55s - we call them “Life Renters” - aren’t ready to buy a property, even though they want to
- 55% of people believe that being able to work on their own terms is important to achieving work-life balance
- 63% of people aged 18-34 are not on the property ladder
We know that planning out your finances can be challenging and that drove us to create a report that delves into what Modern Life really looks like, and what you can do to stay in control of your finances.
