Week ahead: US jobs data, Chinese foreign trade in the spotlight

(Sharecast News) - All eyes this week will be on the U.S. non-farm payrolls report for the month of November. Consensus is for an increase of 170,000 persons, although some economists see scope for an upside surprise.

Other key reports due out in the U.S. include the Institute for Supply Management's services sector Purchasing Managers' Index on Tuesday and Department of Labor figures for third quarter unit labour costs and productivity on Wednesday.

The JOLTS labour market report and consultancy Challenger's monthly tally of job cut announcements on Tuesday and Thursday, respectively, will also help to fill in some of the blanks regarding the state of the labour market in the U.S..

Investors will also be keen to see the preliminary findings of the University of Michigan's consumer confidence survey for December.

Chinese foreign trade data for November, on Thursday, will also be in focus.

Rate-setters Down Under meanwhile will get together on Tuesday to decide on policy.

On home shores, a final reading on S&P Global's services sector Purchasing Managers' Index for November is due out on Tuesday.

House price data covering that same month will be published two days later, courtesy of mortgage lender Halifax.

In the euro area, Eurostat will release data for producer prices on Tuesday and for retail sales on Wednesday.
