Week ahead: US budget negotiations, non-farm payrolls in focus
(Sharecast News) - All eyes over the coming week would be on whether lawmakers on Capitol Hill were able to reach a deal, or at least a compromise, in order to avert a government shutdown. While many analysts expected any shutdown in the U.S. federal government to be brief, it might not be without costs, in so far as it could factor into credit rating agencies' views on the country's fiscal dynamics and outlook.
A shutdown would also entail the postponement of the release of Friday's all-important non-farm payroll report for the month of September at a time when the central bank and financial markets were especially data-dependent.
The same would hold true for Wednesday's JOLTS report on job openings and quits in the States and Thursday's weekly jobless claims data.
Should a shutdown occur, private sector compiled reports on the services and factory sectors in the U.S., on Monday and Wednesday, respectively, would garner even more attention than was already the case.
So too Thursday's Challenger report on job cut announcements.
Against that backdrop, the coming weekend would also see the release of the Caixin surveys for Chinese manufacturing and services in September.
They would be followed on Monday by equivalent surveys for the euro area, UK and US manufacturing sector.
Another raft of surveys out of those three regions, but this time for services, would be published on Wednesday.
Elsewhere in Asia, rate-setters Down Under were due to meet on Tuesday to decide on monetary policy.
