Week ahead: China data, UK GDP in the spotlight

(Sharecast News) - The market spotlight over the coming week will shift towards Asia.

On Tuesday, China's customs administration will release foreign trade figures for the month of October.

They will be followed on Thursday by consumer price data for the Asian giant covering that same month with money supply data set to follow on Friday.

In other Asia news, the minutes of the Bank of Japan's last policy meeting were due out on Sunday 5 November.

Rate-setters Down Under meanwhile were expected to announce a 15 basis point hike in their main policy rate on Tuesday to 4.35%.

Also on Friday, the Office for National Statistics will publish gross domestic product data for September.

Having eked out quarterly growth of 0.1% and 0.2% during the first and second quarters of 2023, the economy looked set to stagnate or even record a 0.1% quarter-on-quarter decline over the three months to September.

And Bank of England Governor, Andrew Bailey, was scheduled to deliver a speech on Wednesday.

In the euro area, the main risk event would be the final readings on S&P Global's services sector purchasing managers' indices for the bloc's major economies.

Stateside the University of Michigan would announce the preliminary results of its consumer confidence survey for November.
