US open: S&P 500 and Nasdaq fall from record highs
(Sharecast News) - Wall Street stocks were in the red early on Monday after both the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite closed out the previous session at all-time highs. As of 1530 GMT, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 0.20% at 39,009.54, while the S&P 500 lost 0.08% to 5,132.96 and the Nasdaq Composite came out the gate 0.27% higher at 16,230.23.
The Dow opened 77.84 points lower on Monday, almost reversing gains recorded in the previous session despite weak economic data.
Nvidia continued to trade higher on Monday morning after rallying sharply at the end of last week, with the stock now trading at a new record high, while tech giant Apple traded lower on the back of an almost $2.0bn antitrust fine levelled against it by the European Union.
On the macro front, Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia president Patrick Harker will deliver a speech at 1600 GMT.
Later in the week, market participants will turn to ADP's employment survey and job openings data on Wednesday, while Friday will mark the release of both manufacturing and nonfarm payrolls data. Fed chairman Jerome Powell will also testify in front of both the House of Representatives and the Senate on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.
No major corporate earnings were slated for release on Monday.
