Actively managed funds

Actively managed funds

Managed funds do not track the movement of a particular stockmarket index. Fund managers of actively managed funds aim to outperform the market and use their skill and those of their analysts to pick the best companies to invest in.

Passive tracker funds

Passive tracker funds

Tracker funds are not actively managed but attempt to match or track the movement of a stockmarket index. This means that your investment reflects proportionately the companies listed in a particular index - the FTSE 100, for example, and the stockmarket dictates how well your investment does.

Fund of funds (MultiManager)

Funds of funds (MultiManager)

A fund of funds invests primarily in other investment funds rather than directly into individual stocks. They provide an alternative to putting together your own portfolio of funds, monitoring it and making changes - they provide ready-made portfolios managed by expert fund managers.

Please remember the value of the fund and the income from it can go down as well as up so you may get back less than you invested.
