US open: Dow Jones on track for fifth-straight winning week
(Sharecast News) - Wall Street stocks were little changed early on Friday after the blue-chip Dow Jones briefly crossed the psychologically important 40,000-point mark for the first time in its history a day earlier. As of 1600 BST, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.07% at 39,897.55, while the S&P 500 advanced 0.01% to 5,297.39 and the Nasdaq Composite was 0.02% lower at 16,694.43.
The Dow opened 28.17 points higher on Friday, narrowly extending gains recorded in the previous session.
Following this week's gains, major indices were now into positive territory for Q2 despite a rough start, with both the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite up double-digits for the year.
The Dow Jones was also on track for a fifth consecutive positive week after hitting a fresh intraday high of 40,051.05 in the previous session, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were staring down the barrel of 1.5% and 2.3 weekly gain, respectively.
In the corporate space, GameStop shares slumped as it announced its intention to sell 45.0m common shares and posted preliminary results that included a Q1 sales drop, while social media outfit Reddit rallied after revealing it had struck a deal with ChatGPT maker OpenAI.
No major data points were slated for release on Friday.
