Friday preview: U.S. non-farm payrolls, consumer confidence in focus

(Sharecast News) - All eyes at the end of the week will be on the U.S. jobs market as the Department of Labor publishes the January employment report. Although the preliminary data is often subject to large revisions and can be distorted by multiple factors in any given month, it will help mold opinions on the current state of the U.S. economy.

At 1330 GMT, Labor is expected to announce that non-farm payroll growth reached 180,000, following a gain of 216,000 during the previous month.

Average hourly earnings meanwhile were expected to have risen at a month-on-month clip of 0.3%.

Also due out were the final readings for the University of Michigan's consumer confidence survey covering the month of January.
