Wednesday preview: US Q1 GDP, inflation data, China PMIs in focus
(Sharecast News) - All eyes in the middle of the week will be on first quarter gross domestic product figures due out in the US. At 1230 GMT, the Department of Commerce is expected to say that the American economy expanded at an annualised pace of only 0.4% over the three months to March.
That would be down from the 2.4% clip observed during the last quarter of 2024.
Also due out is a reading for the US Employment Cost Index covering that same period, as well as the price deflator for personal consumption expenditures in March.
Worth noting, the latter is the US Federal Reserve's preferred inflation gauge.
A first reading on German first quarter GDP growth is scheduled too, together with readings for retail sales and unemployment in March.
Throughout the morning investors will also be reacting to reports on the cost of living in France, Italy and Germany.
Earlier, at 0600 GMT, mortgage lender Nationwide will publish a reading on UK housing prices in April.
Overnight, survey compiler Caixin will come out with the results of its factory sector Purchasing Managers' survey for April.
