Wednesday preview: US Fed meeting, Microsoft and Meta in focus

(Sharecast News) - Trading is likely to remain restrained throughout the Wednesday session - barring surprises - as investors sit on their hands ahead of the result of the US central bank's latest policy meeting after the close of trading in London. No change in policy is anticipated, but one or perhaps even two of the Federal Reserve's policymakers are expected to dissent and cast their vote in favour of a cut.

Also on investors' minds will be the quarterly results due out, after the New York close this time, from US technology giants Microsoft and Meta.

Either of those could also heavily influence investor sentiment overnight in Asia and the next day in Europe and the States.

Earlier, at 1215 BST, consultancy ADP will release its estimate of private sector payroll growth during the month of July.

Readings on German and US second quarter GDP will be published at 0800 BST and 1230 BST, respectively.

Rate-setters in Ottawa will announce their own interest rate decision at 1345 BST.
