Wednesday preview: UK CPI, geopolitics in focus

(Sharecast News) - Investors' focus in the middle of the week will be on the cost of living in the UK. At 0700 GMT, the Office for National Statistics is expected to announce that the headline rate of increase in consumer prices ticked lower by a tenth of a percentage point last month to reach 2.9%.

Core CPI meanwhile is seen slipping to 3.6%.

Also due out is a reading for durable goods orders covering the month of February.

In the background, investors will be keeping an eye out for any geopolitical or trade related news which could easily drive price action in financial markets.

On the corporate side of things, Vistry was due to release its full-year numbers.

UBS analyst Gregor Kuglitsch believed that investors' focus would be on the homebuilder's fiscal year 2025 outlook and medium-term targets.

His forecast was calling for a £30m year-on-year increase in profit before tax to £280m, against consensus for £295m.

Company management had guided towards a reduction in net debt to less than £500m (UBS: £477m).
