Tuesday preview: Ukraine talks, US debt ceiling vote in focus

(Sharecast News) - Tuesday will bring with it two of the week's main risk events, a summit between Kyiv and Washington in Saudi Arabia and a vote in the US congress aimed at averting a looming government shutdown. The former will come close on the heels of reports that Russia is open to a ceasefire agreement should the broad outlines of a long-term peace agreement be clear.

For his part, Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy is expected to push the US to restart military aid shipments.

Stateside meanwhile, lawmakers in the House of Representatives will vote on a six-month Continuing Resolution aimed at keeping the government running until September, when the fiscal year ends.

Also in the US, at 1000 BST the NFIB will release its small business sentiment index for February.

It will be followed at 1400 BST by the results of the JOLTS labour market survey.

On home shores, overnight the British Retail Consortium will publish like-for-like retail sales figures covering the month of February.
