Friday preview: US government shutdown (or not), Berkeley Group in focus
(Sharecast News) - Financial markets' focus on Friday will be on the US Senate and whether or not Republicans were able to muster the eight votes from the other side of the aisle needed to avoid a government shutdown the next day.
The latest reports indicate that the odds of a shutdown have decreased.
Ahead of that vote, at 0700 BST the Office for National Statistics will release its estimate for gross domestic product growth in January.
At 0930 BST meanwhile, the Bank of England will publish its Inflation Attitudes survey.
Also due out throughout the morning are figures for consumer prices in Germany, France and Spain for the month of February.
Preliminary results for the University of Michigan's US consumer confidence survey for March will come out at 1400 BST.
For Berkeley Group Holdings's trading update, Gregor Kuglitsch at UBS pointed out that read across from the homebuilder's peers suggested that demand in London remained mixed.
His forecasts were calling for profit before tax in fiscal year 2025 of £527m, £499m in FY26 and £520m in FY27.
