Friday preview: China trade data, Fedspeak, IAG in the spotlight
(Sharecast News) - The market spotlight at the end of the week will be on China and the US. Overnight, China's customs administration will release foreign trade data for the month of April.
They will be followed later in the day by a stream of no less than 10 top Federal Reserve officials who are due to deliver speeches.
In the background, investors will also be keeping tabs on any headlines around the US-China trade talks scheduled for the day afterwards.
BoE Governor Andrew Bailey will also deliver remarks, at 0840 BST.
On the company side of things, IAG is due to release its first quarter earnings report.
Ahead of the same, City analyst Michael Hewson told clients that the share price drop following the release of its full-year numbers in February was a bit mystifying as they had been positive in multiple aspects.
One possible explanation, he believed, might be expectations for less trans-Atlantic travel to the US and the carriers many routes across that ocean.
"There may be some truth in this, however, that says more about people on this side of the pond than anything else," he added.
"Choosing to punish the working people of the US who value your custom for the actions of a President who will be gone in 4-years seems rather petty. Nonetheless it may be a factor and could mean IAG misses its revenue targets."
