Wizz Air passenger numbers grow 8.8pc in September

(Sharecast News) - Low-cost carrier Wizz Air said on Thursday that it had carried 6.265m passengers during September, up 8.8% year-on-year. Wizz Air said seat capacity had increased 7.6% year-on-year to 6.753m, resulting in a load factor of 92.8%, up 1 percentage point compared to September 2024.

The FTSE 250-listed airline also announced that it will close its Vienna base by March 2026, in the face of "unsustainable cost increases" seen over recent years.

Two aircraft will move to a new base opening in Bratislava, Slovakia, for the Winter season, while the remaining three aircraft will be moved to other parts of the network by March 2026.

As of 0835 BST, Wizz Air shares were up 2% at 1,173p.
