Hochschild Mining appoints Vale veteran Cassio Diedrich as COO

(Sharecast News) - Hochschild Mining said on Tuesday that it has appointed Cassio Diedrich as chief operating officer. The appointment took effect on Monday. Hochschild said Diedrich is an experienced mining engineer who began his career at Vale, where he held a number of senior responsibilities including technical, operational and business roles over 15 years, latterly as global head of mining & technical services for the Vale base metals business.

Recently, Diedrich held the role of head of business planning and mining at Glencore for two years before becoming Kinterra Capital's global head of strategy & portfolio companies.

Hochschild said he is a Brazilian national whose local expertise will prove "invaluable", with Brazil being a key market for the company as it completes an operational reorganisation of its Mara Rosa mine and continues to progress Monte Do Carmo, a gold project in the next-door state to Mara Rosa.

Chief executive Eduardo Landin said: "I'm pleased to welcome Cassio to Hochschild. His extensive industry knowledge and strong local experience made him the clear choice for this role. We're excited to have him on board and look forward to his contributions he will bring in the years ahead.

"This is an important time for Hochschild as we focus on maximising the performance of our existing operations while advancing our key growth opportunities."
