GSK's Blenrep gets green light from China's NMPA

(Sharecast News) - Drugmaker GSK said on Monday that its relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma treatment Blenrep had received approval from China's National Medical Products Administration, making it the only anti-BCMA cleared for use in the country. GSK said Blenrep's Chinese approval followed a priority review of its application and Breakthrough Therapy Designation for its combination with bortezomib and dexamethasone based on the potential to provide "substantial improvement" over available therapies.

GSK's Hesham Abdullah said: "Patients with multiple myeloma who face relapse need treatment options that are both effective and accessible. Today's approval of Blenrep brings anti-BCMA therapy to patients in China with relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma in 2L+, introducing a differentiated mechanism of action with the potential to help slow disease progression and extend survival.

"Further, Blenrep as the only anti-BCMA ADC is fully outpatient administered, so patients can be treated at any site of care without complex pre-administration regimens or hospitalisation."

As of 0815 BST, GSK shares were up 0.093% at 2,146p.
