FTSE 250 movers: Johnson Matthey tanks; Miners shine amid tariff gloom
(Sharecast News) - FTSE 250 (MCX) 23,691.70 -0.25% Shares in Johnson Matthey plunged on Monday after the company slashed almost half a billion pounds from the sale price of its catalyst technologies business to Honeywell after reports the American conglomerate was thinking about walking away from the deal.
Honeywell will now pay £1.33bn, down from the previously agreed £1.8bn last May as Johnson Matthey moves to focus on its car pollution filters platinum group metals processing businesses. Shares in the UK-listed company fell 15.5% in early trade.
Bloomberg on Sunday reported Honeywell was considering walking away because of concerns over regulatory approvals and business milestones.
Johnson Matthey said the reduced price reflected the unit's performance during the 2025/26 financial year including the deferral of key sustainable solutions licensing projects and a challenging market environment for the supply of catalysts.
MoneySuperMarket-owner Mony Group reiterated guidance on Monday despite "significant" headwinds in car insurance.
Revenues for the year to 31 December rose 2% to £446.3m, while adjusted earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation were up 2% at £145.1m.
The FTSE 250 firm saw solid growth in money and home services, with revenues up 8% at £105.7m and 33% at £48.2m respectively. But that was partially offset by a 1% dip in revenues in insurance, its largest division, to £232.5m, with particularly challenging conditions in car and home.
Mony called it a "resilient financial performance despite significant headwinds in car insurance".
gold prices move higher amid the uncertainty.
Gold miners Hochschild and Endeavour were up on the back of a higher gold price as investors sought safe havens amid the latest uncertainty sparked by US President Donald Trump's defeat in the Supreme Court over his all tariff policy.
