Important information - the value of investments and the income from them can go down as well as up, so you may get back less than you invest.

Q: With Premier Inn shares, do you get one breakfast a year or every time you stay?

A: I’m delighted you’ve written in with this question, as so many investors aren’t aware that investing in a company can present more than an investing opportunity.

Premier Inn is part of Whitbread. And if you own at least 64 Whitbread shares (which equates to an investment of around £1,489 at time of writing), you could be entitled to a free Premier Inn breakfast when staying at a participating UK hotel.

The good news is that this isn't a one-off annual perk. Shareholders receive a Shareholders Benefits Card which is normally issued in May. The ‘free’ breakfast applies to each morning of your stay, subject to the terms and conditions of the shareholder scheme.

As shareholder perks can change over time, it's worth checking the latest details before booking.

If you’re on the hunt for more freebies, other companies also offer shareholder perks.
