FTSE 250 movers: Aston Martin leads risers, Mitchells & Butlers drops

(Sharecast News) - Aston Martin, easyJet and oil stocks were among the day's better performers on the FTSE 250, while Capital Gearing Trust and Mitchells & Butlers fell sharply.

Luxury carmaker Aston Martin Lagonda Holdings jumped after announcing late on Wednesday that it has closed a new £550m debt financing, which it said "strengthens the group's financial position and provides further flexibility to execute on its long-term growth ambition".

EasyJet reported a 70% drop in third-quarter profit on Thursday as it took a hit from high fuel prices and a reduction in consumer demand following the onset of the Middle East conflict. However, the stock was rebounding from a 12% plunge the previous session on reports of an EU probe into airline ownership rules.

Oil stocks Harbour Energy, Ithaca Energy and Diversified Energy Company were in demand as oil prices surged. Brent crude was up 6.9% at $100.56 a barrel, topping the $100 mark for the first time in two months, as conflict escalated between the US and Iran.

Leading the downside was Capital Gearing Trust, though the 90% drop was largely symbolic after a ten-for-one share split became effective.

Pub chain Mitchells & Butlers was another heavy faller after saying that third‑quarter trading was held back by tough weather conditions and strong comparatives. Like‑for‑like sales growth over the financial year to date was just 2.2%.

Morgan Sindall underwhelmed after reiterating its full-year expectations as it posted record half-year results and lifted medium-targets for two of its divisions. Financial peers AJ Bell and Jupiter Fund Management also fell after publishing results.
