FTSE 100 movers: Miners rally; StanChart gives back some gains

(Sharecast News) - London's FTSE 100 was up 0.7% at 7,689.91 in afternoon trade on Friday. Miners Anglo American and Glencore both gained as metals price rose.

Rentokil was knocked lower by an initiation at 'underperform' by Exane, while Hargreaves Lansdown fell after a downgrade to 'underperform' from 'outperform' at Autonomous.

Credit-checking firm Experian also fell despite an initiation of coverage by Exane at 'outperform'.

Standard Chartered was in the red, having surged 20% on Thursday after a Bloomberg report suggested that First Abu Dhabi Bank was considering making an offer for the bank.

First Abu Dhabi later confirmed that it had been in the "very early" stages of evaluating a possible offer but was no longer doing so.

CMC Markets analyst Michael Hewson said: "The euphoria which came about as a result of yesterday's announcement appears to have given way to a realisation that any deal is unlikely due to the complexity around the number of regulatory approvals that would be needed to get any sort of deal off the ground."
