FTSE 100 movers: Airtel Africa slumps; Melrose gains again

(Sharecast News) - London's FTSE 100 was down 0.6% at 7,694.47 in afternoon trade on Thursday. Airtel Africa was the standout loser on the index after full-year results, while heavily-weighted miners fell, with Anglo, Glencore and Rio Tinto all down.

Rolls-Royce lost ground as it held annual guidance and said large engine flying hours had hit 83% of 2019 levels in the four months to April 30.

Tesco and BP fell as they traded without entitlement to the dividend.

Vodafone was weaker after saying it has entered a strategic relationship with its largest shareholder, Emirates Telecommunications - also known as e& - which will see the company's chief executive take a seat on the board.

E& first took a stake in Vodafone in May 2022 and now owns a 14.6% interest.

On the upside, Smurfit Kappa was the top performer on the index, while Melrose Industries continued to gain, having said on Wednesday that it was trading "materially ahead" of expectations, with significant growth in revenue, profit and margin.
