Our view
- M&G launched the UK’s first corporate bond fund in 1994, and maintains one of Europe’s largest teams of credit analysts.
- Richard Woolnough and Ben Lord invest in sterling-denominated corporate bonds with the aim of providing a higher total return (income plus price appreciation) than gilts of the same maturity.
- In the event that a company defaults, all is not lost. M&G has a dedicated team of ‘workout specialists’ who analyse bonds close to or in default. Often, they will work with borrowers in default to renegotiate the terms of the debt, giving M&G a better chance of recovering its investment.
