Investment objective
The investment objective of the Fund is to seek long-term total return through investment in a diversified portfolio of emerging markets local currency-denominated debt securities. To achieve its objective, the Fund will invest under normal circumstances primarily in an actively managed diversified portfolio consisting of local currency fixed income instruments issued by emerging markets governments and their quasi sovereign agencies (including supranational and sub-national government issuers).

Cem Karacadag is Head of Barings’ Global Sovereign Debt and Currencies Group. Cem is the lead portfolio manager for the Emerging Market Hard Currency Sovereign, Emerging Market Local Currency and Emerging Market Debt Blended strategies. Cem has worked in the industry since 1994, and his experience has encompassed sovereign credit analysis, macroeconomic policy research and advice and emerging markets fixed income strategy. Prior to joining the firm in 2014, Cem was at Oppenheimer Funds, where he worked on sovereign hard currency and local currency investments in Eastern Europe and Asia. Before Oppenheimer, he worked at Credit Suisse covering emerging market sovereigns in Asia and Latin America, and at the International Monetary Fund, where he focused on monetary policy instruments, exchange rate policy and bank restructuring in China, Indonesia and Eastern Europe. He also held positions at Standard & Poor’s and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Cem holds a B.A. in economics from Tufts University and an M.A. in international economics and European studies from Johns Hopkins University.

Dr. Mi Lu is a managing director and co-portfolio manager for the Emerging Market Local Currency strategy. She is also a member of Barings’ Global Sovereign Debt and Currencies Group and a sovereign and quantitative analyst. Mi has worked in the industry since 2013. Prior to joining the firm in 2014, Mi was previously an economist/consultant with Fiduciary Research & Consulting LLC based in San Francisco. Mi holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California, Riverside, an M.A. in Applied Economics with distinction from the City University of Hong Kong as well as dual bachelor's degrees in finance and mathematics from Wuhan University in China.
