Our view
The investment objective of the Royal London UK Government Bond Fund is to maximise total investment return (income and capital growth) over the medium to long term by investing mainly in UK government bonds. The fund is led by Paul Rayner and Craig Inches.
The performance boils down to three main factors: GDP growth, inflation and central bank interest rates. Rayner and Inches make 36-month forecasts for these three variables across the G-10 countries. From this data they estimate the future path of bond yields and position their portfolio accordingly.
The managers believe in conducting ‘stock-specific’ research, scrutinising individual bonds poised to benefit from market anomalies.
