Metals Exploration taps Nick von Schirnding for chairman

(Sharecast News) - Gold producer Metals Exploration said on Monday that it has appointed Nick von Schirnding as chairman, with immediate effect. Metals Exploration said von Schirnding brings "significant experience" across successful strategic development, M&A, and corporate governance, including within the UK regulatory framework. Before joining the firm, he worked extensively in the Far East, South America and Africa.

The AIM-listed group added that von Schirnding, who will replace interim chairman Steven Smith, currently acts as the executive chairman of Arc Minerals. Previously, von Schirnding was chief executive of Asia Resource Minerals and prior to this, he held senior roles at both Anglo American and De Beers.

Steven Smith said: "We are delighted to welcome Nick to the board as the company's new chair. Nick is a highly regarded mining professional and brings a wealth of expertise to Metals Exploration. We look forward to working with him as we continue our strategy of growing MTL in the Philippines as well as creating value through expanding our portfolio in the country."
