Week ahead: US corporate results, PCE inflation data in focus

(Sharecast News) - Investors' focus over the following was expected to shift from macroeconomics to corporate news, as the U.S. first quarter earnings season got under way.

In particular, U.S. tech heavyweights Alphabet and Microsoft were due to update investors on Tuesday, followed by Meta the next day.

On the economic side of things, the week's key release was expected to be the U.S. personal income and spending report for March on Friday.

The core price deflator for personal consumption expenditures, the Fed's preferred inflation gauge, was forecast to slip from a year-on-year pace of 2.8% in February to 2.6%.

Of great importance too would be a raft of purchasing managers' surveys for manufacturing and services sector activity in April out of the euro area, UK and U.S..

Here investors would be watching to see whether the euro area economy was showing signs of perking up.

Also due out on home shores were public sector net borrowing data for March on Tuesday and for consumer confidence in April come Thursday.

Against that backdrop, rate-setters in the People's Republic of China and Japan were due to meet to decide on policy on Monday and Friday, respectively.
