Thursday preview: US jobs data, European debt auctions in the spotlight
(Sharecast News) - The market spotlight on Thursday will be on the US jobs market and what may be the last related indicator as a result of the federal government shutdown. At 1330 BST, the US Department of Labor is scheduled to publish the latest weekly unemployment claims figures.
They will be preceded, one hour before, by consultancy Challenger's tally of job cut announcements during the month of September.
The US Congress will remain on break in observance of Yom Kippur, but investors are likely to be keeping an eye out for any headlines related to the funding impasse on Capitol Hill.
Congress will be in session on Friday.
In the euro area, monthly unemployment data are due out in Italy, Spain and for the single currency bloc as a whole.
Ten-year government bond auctions will be held in the UK, at 1030 BST, France, Germany, Japan and Spain.
