Thursday preview: UK GDP, Burberry and B&M results
(Sharecast News) - Thursday will see the release of third-quarter UK GDP figures, along with first-half results from 3i, Burberry, Qinetiq, B&M European Value Retail and Premier Foods. Also slated for release are a third-quarter trading update from Aviva, Q3 results from Endeavour Mining, trading updates from Rolls-Royce, Persimmon and Spirax, and a 10-month trading update from Convatec.
As far as Burberry is concerned, UBS said it expects second-quarter retail sales of £425m, down 1% year-on-year and up 1% at constant currency, with 1% growth in like-for-like sales, "thus turning positive after seven consecutive quarters in the negative territory".
The bank expects first-half EBIT of £14m, with FY26E profits being largely skewed to the second half, in line with the company's prior guidance.
UBS said: "We expect investor focus to be on: (1) Any pricing taken by the brand in light of US tariffs and other measures taken to offset it amid still depressed profitability; (2) Performance by product category amid the brand's recent return to focusing on its core outwear category; (3) H2 wholesale outlook as a leading indicator of brand performance under the leadership of CEO Schulman; (4) Sales growth by consumer cluster and especially the Chinese nationals given recent signs of improvement in ML China; (5) FX impact on profits in FY26 (£15m headwind on profits as of Q1 FY26 results); (6) Comments on latest trends and Q3 FY26 outlook given the late timing of the company's results announcement (mid-November)."
In Europe, quarterly results are due from Siemens, Deutsche Telekom and Delivery Hero, with half-year results from Alstom, among others.
Across the pond, Walt Disney and Applied Materials are among the companies slated to report.
