Thursday preview: Powell, US Long-Bond auction in focus

(Sharecast News) - Thursday will see the US Federal Reserve remain in focus with its head, Jerome Powell, due to speak. The Fed chairman will deliver a speech at 1330 BST and investors are keen to know Powell's current thinking regarding the path ahead for interest rates.

All of this, of course, amid all the talk in markets currently around so-called "dollar debasement".

At least three other top Fed officials are also slated to take to the podium over the course of the afternoon.

Come 1800 BST meanwhile, the bond market will deliver its latest indictment of the current situation, in the form of an auction of 30-year Treasuries.

In Germany meanwhile, at 0800 BST the Ministry of Finance will publish foreign trade figures covering the month of August.

The European Central Bank will release the accounts of its most recent rate-setting meeting at 1230 BST.

On home shores, overnight the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors will release its Housing Price Balance for the month of September.
