Friday preview: US, euro area inflation data in focus

(Sharecast News) - The flow of economic data will pick up at the end of the week with inflation readings due out on either side of the Atlantic. In particular, investors will be scrutinising the PCE price data for July due out at 1230 BST, as the core PCE index is the Fed's preferred inflation gauge.

Consensus is that the annual rate of increase in core PCE prices will have ticked higher by one tenth of a percentage point to 2.6%.

Earlier, at 0900 BST, Eurostat is expected to announce that euro area headline CPI gains slowed from the 2.6% clip observed in July to 2.2%.

Also due out is a readings for German unemployment covering the month of August.

On home shores, at 0830 BST the Office for National Statistics will publish consumer credit and net lending figures for July.
