Friday preview: Nationwide house prices in focus
(Sharecast News) - Friday looks set to be a quiet end to the week, with no major UK corporate releases due and US markets closing early for the Thanksgiving holiday. On the macro front, German retail sales for October will be released at 0700 GMT, while the October unemployment rate will be out at 0855 GMT.
In the UK, the Nationwide house price index for November is due at 0700 GMT.
The last Nationwide report at the end of October showed that annual house price growth picked up to 2.4% from 2.2% in September. On the month, meanwhile, house price growth slowed to 0.3% from 0.5%.
The average price of a home was £272,226 in October, up from £271,995 the month before.
Robert Gardner, Nationwide's chief economist, said at the time: "The housing market has remained broadly stable in recent months, with house prices rising at a modest pace and the number of mortgages approved for house purchase maintained at similar levels to those prevailing before the pandemic struck.
"Against a backdrop of subdued consumer confidence and signs of weakening in the labour market, this performance indicates resilience, especially since mortgage rates are more than double the level they were before Covid struck and house prices are close to all-time highs."
