Friday preview: BoE and BoJ governors, Fed's Powell in focus
(Sharecast News) - Investors' focus at the end of the week will be on the Jackson Hole Economic Symposium, with the governors of the Bank of England, Bank of Japan and the President of the US Federal Reserve due to deliver speeches.
Andrew Bailey and Kazuo Ueda were due to deliver speeches at 1900 BST and 0030 BST, respectively.
Sandwiched between the two would be Fed chief Jerome Powell, who would speak at 1400 BST.
Some market watchers believed that expectations for more than three interest rate cuts in what remained of 2024 were excessive. Did Powell share that view as well?
Financial markets were also trying to figure out just low rates would go in 2025.
Looking out to 2025 and beyond, to the 'fog' of economic data as some economists described it, one had to add the uncertainty around the result of the US elections and geopolitics.
