Eden Research fungicide added to German organics list

(Sharecast News) - Sustainable biopesticides and biocontrol specialist Eden Research announced on Wednesday that its flagship fungicide Mevalone has been added to the Organic Input List by FiBL Germany - a key certification for products used in organic farming. The AIM-traded firm said the inclusion followed the approval of Mevalone in Germany earlier in the year.

It said the Organic Input List is managed by the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL), an organisation focussed on sustainability and organic farming standards.

The certification confirmed that Mevalone met stringent requirements for use in organic production across Germany and several other countries.

Eden said the registration aligned with Germany's 2030 organic strategy, which aimed to increase organic farmland to 30% by the end of the decade - exceeding the EU Green Deal target of 25%.

Mevalone could play a pivotal role in helping German farmers meet those goals while maintaining productivity, the company explained, by providing effective control of fungal diseases in compliance with organic standards.

"Mevalone's inclusion in the Organic Input List by FiBL Germany provides us with another vital organic registration in an important market, following in the footsteps of Greece, Italy, and France," said chief executive officer Sean Smith.

"Our products' organic compliance demonstrates their sustainable qualities based on Eden's terpene chemistry, as well as their strong efficacy, even when compared with conventional pesticides."

Smith said Germany currently had about 10% of its apple orchards and 15% of vineyard areas dedicated to organic farming, adding that indications were that the proportions of organic farmland were growing rapidly.

"Against this backdrop, we have strategically positioned Mevalone as one of the leading alternative fungicide products that fits both the conventional and organic farming needs."

At 1100 GMT, shares in Eden Research were up 3.9% at 4p.
