Investment objective
The Sub fund aims to outperform (after deduction of costs) a composite index comprising 60% UK and 40% overseas equities, as stated in sterling over rolling five-year periods. The composite index is calculated by Baillie Gifford and comprises: 60% FTSE All-Share Index and 40% overseas indices. The overseas element is currently made up of 28% FTSE North America Index; 28% FTSE Europe (ex UK) Index; 28% MSCI Pacific Index and 16% MSCI Emerging Markets Index. The Sub-fund will invest at least 90% directly or indirectly in shares of UK and overseas companies. The indirect investment will be through collective investment schemes (including those managed or operated by the ACD). The Sub-fund will be actively managed and may invest in shares of companies from any country, sector and in shares of companies of any size, however the Sub-fund will have a bias to UK companies.

Fund manager biography
Iain is the head of our UK Equity Team and lead manager of the UK Equity Core Strategy. He is also the joint manager on our flagship Managed Strategy, which he has been involved in since 2000, and became a partner of the firm in 2005. Iain graduated MA in Accountancy from the University of Aberdeen and subsequently qualified as a Chartered Accountant.

Andrew Stobart has been a portfolio manager in the Emerging Markets Team since 2007 and sits on the Emerging Markets All Cap Portfolio Construction Group. Mr. Stobart has also been a member of the International Alpha Portfolio Construction Group since 2008. Since joining Baillie Gifford as an Investment Analyst in 1991, Mr. Stobart has worked in the U.K., Japanese and North American Teams. Prior to joining Baillie Gifford, Mr. Stobart spent three years working in Investment Banking in London. Mr. Stobart graduated MA in Economics from the University of Cambridge in 1987. Mr. Stobart has been a member of the team since 2007.
