Why we like the fund

Since taking the reins in November 2006, Ben Whitmore has managed the fund through some tough times for valuation focused investing - yet he’s not only met the fund’s stated objective of outperforming the FTSE All Share but done so remaining true to a well-founded process. The team seeks to invest in a concentrated list of holdings, 30-50 stocks with 40% weighting to the top 10 positions.

How to use this fund

The manager looks to construct the portfolio from an initial valuation screening followed by detailed fundamental analysis. The aim is to identify companies cheaply valued over ten-year business cycles. Given its strong valuation ethos, the fund’s performance may trail in stronger rising markets and over time the fund has proven to protect well in falling markets. This fund is most suitable for an investor with a medium to long term investment timeframe and a willingness to accept shorter-term relative underperformance.
