A simple, low-cost fund to get you started

The Fidelity Index World Fund

We're suggesting this fund to give you access to some of the world’s biggest companies and their collective share price performance.

To do this, the fund aims to closely follow the MSCI World Index, which keeps track of these companies, and spreads your money across them. This keeps costs low and makes sure your investment is well-diversified.

  • The fund manager monitors and changes the companies in line with the index, so you don’t have to
  • It’s a great way to own a slice of different companies, and spread risk across a wide range of shares
  • We’ve arranged a discount on the annual management charges of the fund, reducing this to 0.1% (usually 0.12%)

Important: Easy Invest isn’t a personal recommendation, so if you’re not sure it's right for you, please speak to an authorised financial adviser. The value of investments can fall as well as rise, so you may get back less than you invest. You can invest in this fund in an ISA, SIPP or Investment Account. Tax treatment depends on your circumstances and all tax rules may change.

Performance of the fund

The top (blue) line shows the growth of this fund with a starting investment of £1,000 and then £50 saved a month over the last 5 years. The green (bottom) line shows the contributions over this time.

Five year performance
This figure shows the percentage return for each of the past five years.

Fidelity Index World Fund 17.0 -0.5 32.9 7.9 6.5

Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future returns. Investments can go down as well as up so you may not get back what you invest.

How much does this cost?

You can benefit from our low 0.35% service fee if you invest more than £7,500, or if you set up a regular savings plan. If you were to invest £1,000 over one year, using a regular savings plan, your charges would break down like this:

Fund charge (0.1%)

This covers the cost of running the fund which includes our discount

Service fee (0.35%)

+ £1.90

The fee you pay for holding an account with Fidelity

Annual total

= £2.90

Based on investing £1,000 over a year using a regular savings plan

This is a simplified example, the actual fee you pay will vary depending on how your investments perform. If you hold less than £7,500 with Fidelity and do not have a regular savings plan, our service fee is £45 for the year. Read more about our fees and charges.

Is Easy Invest right for you?

It could be for you if:

  • You want a low-cost, easy way to start investing in the stock market
  • You don't know much about investing, but just want to get started
  • You want to invest for the long term (5+ years)
  • You'd like regular guidance to help along the way

It's not for you if:

  • You want the fund to provide you with a regular income
  • You're looking for a guaranteed return, or you are not prepared to take investment risk
  • You're looking for a quick way to make money
  • You're seeking personal advice

Risks and things to consider

  • Investing in funds or the stock market opens the opportunity for making your money work harder, but the value of investments can go down as well as up, so you might get back less than you invest.
  • Remember that while cash may be vulnerable to the effects of inflation, it is secure, unlike funds or the stock market.
  • Investing tends to work better over the longer term (through the ups and downs of markets) so investing for 5 years and over improves your chances of better returns, although this isn't guaranteed.
